Hello...
It's nice to meet you, I'm Amy, an MBACP Registered Counsellor and Final Year Trainee Psychologist. I have been studying psychology and working within the Mental Health and Wellbeing sector for almost 10 years. I have a natural curiosity, I am non-judgemental and deeply empathic. Outside of my time working as a therapist I enjoy visiting new places and exploring different cultures.
Therapy with me...
I am trained in four therapeutic approaches called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Humanistic, Systemic and Psychodynamic. These methods of therapy vary in their basic principles (i.e., the way they understand people) and how they look and feel in therapy. These therapeutic approaches are used in combination to provide an ‘integrative’ approach which means that for each client different elements from the different approaches are used together.
Working in collaboration we will develop a unique treatment plan to suite your individual needs and therapeutic goals. So this means therapy with me can look and feel different depending on the person. Some of these approaches may feel more structured such as learning new skills and completing homework. Others may feel more experiential such as talking based sessions. Please see my Therapy Contract for more information.
Experience
I have experience in various roles, my early career was spent as a support worker which led me to working as an advocate for individuals with mental health difficulties. Working as an advocate was my first experience of providing one to one sessional support and I have continued to build upon this skill for the following 7 years. I spent a significant amount of time working as an Assistant Psychologist and most recently as a Trainee Counselling Psychologist both in NHS outpatient services and private inpatient services delivering 1-to-1 therapy. In 2024 I began practicing independently as an MBACP Registered Counsellor as I continue to complete the doctoral programme to register as a HCPC Practitioner Psychologist.
Areas of Expertise
I hold a bachelor of science degree (BSc) in psychology, a master of science degree (MSc) in research in clinical psychology and I will soon hold a doctoral degree in professional counselling psychology. My area of expertise is as an integrative practitioner which means I can tailor sessions to the individual. I am most concerned with the integration of issues into practice such as ensuring my practice is trauma informed and flexible, adapting to atypical physical and mental needs. I have a special interest in Neuropsychology and I have spent a significant proportion of time working in Neuropsychological services.
If you need a specialist, I am able to offer therapy to people who are affected by Learning Disability, Neurodivergence, Personality Disorder
