Hello...

Family and relationships are at the heart of my life. I have 5 children and if I reflect on the highlights it’s probably all of us sitting around the kitchen table sharing views and ideas about life from a 22 year old’s perspective all the way down to a 15 year olds. I’m amazed at their technical abilities, how fast they type and tbh (to be honest) I have and do have so much to learn from them. They are great and keep me on my toes.
We have a fluffy, Westiepoo, who looks more like a poodle but has the temperament of a Westie (quite stubborn and a bit moody). She loves life and often comforts us all.
I am quite active and really enjoy the outdoor. I love running (limped around the London Marathon last year), trail running preferably through bluebell fields) and skiing. I also enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures, especially Africa. I definitely left a bit of my heart in Uganda which I will talk about later on.

Therapy with me...

I understand from first hand experience how brave and courageous it is to start therapy. It takes courage to notice discomfort or pain and pay attention to it. I would see it as a real privilege to sit with you whatever your challenge and help create a space where we meet in our shared humanness. I really want to be able to listen and I mean actively listen to your story and to hopefully share the weight and burden of your experiences, emotions and struggles (so you feel less alone) with warmth and compassion.
Therapy, at its core, is about being in relationship, it is about building safety, trust and understanding and just as trauma happens in relationships so does healing.

Experience

My interest in Psychotherapy was sparked by a period working in Uganda, where I worked with adults with HIV and AIDS. During this time, I saw the raw power of simply being human together, seeing beyond illness and judgement. There was no “us” or “them” just people carrying their own pain, strength and story.
After a career break, I retrained and gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Adolescents and Schools Counselling. I started working in schools, supporting teachers through their emotional and psychological challenges that come with their roles and life in general.
I also have my private practice where I work with a diverse client base facing trauma, grief and addiction.

Areas of Expertise

I work with a wide cross section of people facing childhood trauma, addiction, depression and anxiety.

My main therapeutic tool is “focusing on the relationship” this for me is more important than any particular approach.

I use EMDR and the Person-Centred Approach.

Hi Nicky, just wanted to give you a quick update since our session on Wednesday. Things are still great! I’m still looking round for the ball of anxiety that disappeared-no sign. I’m looking for banana skins, things to get upset about-they’re not there. I’ve had a couple of things happen that would have previously sent me into meltdown, very minor things, but things I would have overreacted to and to my amazement I just accepted them. I feel part of the world and that other people aren’t my enemy. And I’m amazed by that. The Sunday blues are only slight irritation today rather than all consuming. Only had time to spend time, ‘on the beach” once, but I feel good knowing it’s there. I honestly don’t know how to thank you, I’m so grateful.
