Hello...
I have a deep faith in the power of a therapeutic relationship to affect change. For me the art of listening, and of being truly heard, can be transformative.
I am a UKCP accredited psychotherapist who has been in private practice for over a decade. I am currently in private practice and also work for a low-cost community counselling service, Focus Counselling. I am part of the Therapy Works podcast team with my mother and sister, who are fellow psychotherapists.
Therapy with me...
As a person-centred psychotherapist so my focus is on creating a safe, warm, non-judgemental relationship where you feel able to take risks and explore any suffering, confusion or curiosity that you may come with.
My intention will be to listen deeply, beyond just your words, so that together we can make sense of the landscape in which you find yourself. In my experience it is this quality of relationship that enables people to shift in ways that facilitate lasting and meaningful change.
As someone who is also very interested in the wider scope of psychotherapy and psychology, I will draw on my understanding of contemporary theory. For example, how our nervous systems are regulated, the relationship between mind and body, child development and how our wellbeing is interconnected with the wider systems of family, culture, sexuality, class, race and planet.
Experience
I am currently working in private practice and a local low cost community counselling service called Focus Counselling. I have worked in a range of settings including the NHS, a school, in an eating disorder clinic and for the domestic violence charity Woman’s Trust. I also had a practice in Dublin, Ireland.
I hold a MSC in the person-centred approach from the Metanoia Institute and a MSc in Experimental Psychology from the Cambridge University. I have further expertise in trauma research and criminal justice including conducting research into the impact of childhood maltreatment on brain development at (UCL) and working in prisons with young men at the charitynSwitchback.
Areas of Expertise
I worked with a wide range of issues since I started seeing clients. I have some specialist experience in domestic violence, eating disorders, working with the church and in the criminal justice system. I also have a personal interest in ecopsychotherapy and the ways our wellbeing is entwined with planetary health.
